Dr. Everett Wayne Woodworth

Brevard – Dr. Everett Wayne Woodworth, 90, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2014.
Dr. Woodworth was a native of Buffalo, NY. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lois Jean, son, Wayne, mother and father, Ruth Keiling Woodworth and Dr. Everett Albert Woodworth, and step-mother, Opal.
He graduated from the University of Illinois after leaving college early to serve his country in the armed forces. Dr. Woodworth joined his father’s surgical practice in Kenmore, NY and joined the staff of 5 hospitals in the Buffalo area. He met his wife, a surgical nurse, while working at one of these hospitals. They married and adopted 3 children over the years.
Professionally, he chose 2 of the 5 hospitals to concentrate his energy on. He became Chief of Surgery of Kenmore Mercy and remained so for more than 20 years. He also became Chief of Staff for a brief stint. Dr. Woodworth rose from Secretary of the NY State Medical Society to become President of the NYS Chapter of the College of Surgeons.
He enjoyed golf, snow skiing, but he loved sailing his Sunfish sailboat.
Surviving are his son, Mark Woodworth and wife Vevian of Brevard; daughter, Roberta Birmingham and husband Tom of Denver, CO; sister, Dorothy Crozier of Tucson, AZ; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 PM Saturday, September 6, 2014 in the chapel of the First United Methodist Church of Brevard.
