Obituary for Ruth Penland Lucas

Penrose - Ruth Penland Lucas, 97, passed away on September 29, 2014.
Ruth was born in Murphy, N.C. on August 21, 1917. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 31 years, Air Force Lt. Colonel George Lucas; her mother Lilly Stella Penland, her father, Benjamin Harrison Penland and two brothers and two sisters.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Nancy Lucas Robinson and her son-in-law Frank Robinson II; by her grandson David Bristol and his wife Kirsi; by her grandson Jonathan Bristol and his partner Becky Harris, and by her great granddaughter, Ana Bristol.
Her family moved to Bryson City where Ruth grew up. Ruth attended Montreat College and graduated from Western Carolina University. After marrying George, Ruth lived in many parts of the United States as well as Puerto Rico. Ruth, George, and Nancy spent five years stationed near Kaiserslautern, Germany which provided them the opportunity to explore much of Europe. Upon returning to the United States, Ruth spent approximately thirty years living in Asheville, NC before moving to Brevard to be closer to her daughter. Ruth was an avid bridge player and headed a bridge club in Asheville for thirty years. She was generous and caring, a woman with a dry sense of humor who will be missed by all that knew her.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
