Margaret “Peggy” Brookbank, 69, of Brevard, NC died July 9th, 2016 at Mission Health Hospital after a long struggle with chronic illness over the last few years.
She was born in Mineola, NY to the former Edmund Walsky and Margaret (Crossan) Walsky.
She graduated from Farmingdale High School and attended the NY State University of Farmingdale. She worked as dental assistant and an executive assistant to the President of Travelers Research Corp. in Hartford, Connecticut. She was a Real Estate Associate in Palm Beach County for over 20 years.
She was married for 49 years to her grammar school sweetheart, Doug. They lived in Manchester, Connecticut, North Palm Beach and Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and Brevard, NC. They were inseparable as they did everything together including cooking, traveling, tennis, golf and most important to her, nurturing their family.
She was a member of the Connestee Falls Art League; Sacred Heart Ladies Guild; and the Connestee Falls Women’s Golf League.
She is survived by her loving husband, Douglas Brookbank; son Douglas E. Brookbank and wife Bridgett of Centreville, VA; son Adam Brookbank and wife Victoria of Clayton, NC; Brother Edmund Walsky and wife Kim of Jacksonville, Florida. The loves of her life were her grandchildren: Tomayo Brookbank (6), Blythe Brookbank (5), and Joaquin Brookbank (3). She was preceded in death by her older sister, Eileen Birkentall of Altamonte Springs, Florida.
A funeral mass service will be held Saturday, August 13th at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brevard, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made in Peggy’s name to the Arthritis National Research Foundation (www.curearthritis.org/honorary-gifts).
