Obituary for Charles Edward "Charlie" Carr

Charles E. Carr
It is with a sad and heavy heart we are announcing the passing of a great man, Charles “Charlie” Edward Carr August 3, 2016. He was taken from us by a rare disease, amyloidosis. (He’d say, “Look it up.”)
Charlie was born March 31, 1952 in Brevard, NC to Louis, Jr. and Louise Carr. He had two children, Travis Carr (Kathy) and Karri Carr Blalock (Michael). His children went on to give him his pride and joy, his four granddaughters: Bailea and Quinci Blalock, and Anna-Claire and Georgia Grace Carr.
He had two brothers, Louis Henry Carr and John Owen Carr, and three sisters, Jane Singletary Nicholson, Carolyn Revels, and Mary Frances “Fran” Carr Arnold. He also leaves behind his “adoptive” mother Leona Dowell, his long-time companion, Sara Champion, and her children, Matthew Champion and Beth (Bryan) Lyons. In addition, he is survived by numerous aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins, and cherished friends who will miss him greatly.
Charlie was a 1971 graduate of Brevard High School and attended WCU on a football scholarship. He was a member of the National Technical Honor Society. He worked for DuPont/Agfa in Cedar Mountain until its doors closed. Still too young to retire, he inspired us with his work ethic and continued to work full-time in various positions ranging from cabinetmaking to census-taking!
Charlie loved football in all varieties, learning about everything he could, building things that needed to be built, eating great dinners out, traveling, and doing it all with his family and friends.
Please join us October 1, 2016 at 2pm at Christ Covenant Church, 48 Tip-Top Road (across from Sav-Mor) for a time of remembering him and his wonderful life.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you spend some time volunteering for the youth of the county as he did for so many years. If you don’t have the time, then find a child in need of something like equipment for a sport or materials for a project and help with that need. A donation to the Boys and Girls Club of Transylvania County may also be made in his name. He’d really have liked that.
