Ronald Thomas  Drury
Ronald Thomas Drury passed away after a very brief illness on Dec. 1, 2016, surrounded by his loving and heartbroken family. Born in Miami Beach, FL and raised in North Miami, Ron graduated from North Miami High School in 1967. He was predeceased by his parents, Julius “B” Drury and Doris Drury of North Miami.
Ron was a Vietnam Veteran, assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division of the United States Army. He served as both an investigator and as a Military Police Officer from 1969 to 1971. Among other medals, he received the Bronze Star for his service.
After returning to the United States, Ron continued his education and earned both a BS in Criminology and MS in Management from Florida International University. He was a police officer with the Miami-Dade County Police Department from 1973 to 1980, and worked as an instructor at the Southeast Institute for Criminal Justice. Ron was also the Safety Coordinator for Capeletti Bros., Inc. in Miami Lakes from 1980-1984. Fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming a business owner, Ron founded RJD Unlimited, Inc. Investigations in 1984. His incredible personality and attention to personal service ensured the company’s success for 29 years.
Ron and his wife Judy Conkling Drury were married for 37 years. They recently retired to the mountains of Western North Carolina, moving to the town of Brevard. Ron thoroughly enjoyed his new hometown, and loved experiencing its seasonal beauty and friendly people. He never met a stranger, and was widely known for his warm personality, big heart and the love he showered on his family and friends. Ron was a wonderful husband and father who left behind a wealth of happy memories.
In addition to his wife, Ron is survived by daughter Joanna Drury, daughter Denise Drury Homewood, and son-in-law Scott Homewood all of Asheville, NC, brother Ken Drury and sister-in-law Connie Drury of Cumming, Ga., and sister-in- law Terry Conkling of Brevard, NC.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm Thursday December 8, 2016 at
St. Timothy United Methodist Church, 1020 Asheville Highway Brevard, NC 28712. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ron’s name to St. Timothy United Methodist Church or Bread of Life, 238 South Caldwell St., Brevard, NC 28712.
