Pisgah Forest - Jessie Gwendolyn Chapman Roe. died at home February 22, 2017 at 9:40 PM, with family at her side, in Pisgah Forest, North Carolina. She was born in Kenova, West Virginia on August 16, 1926, and was 90 years young.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gwinn Brothers Chapman and Chloe Maynard Chapman Kelly, a brother, Garfield Isaac Chapman, 2 sons, John Garfield Roe of Dunlap, Tennessee, and Christopher Mark Roe of Brevard, North Carolina, and a grandson, Duane Jeffrey "Jeff" Roe of Dunlap, Tennessee, and a son-in law Richard Dahl Bazley, of Brevard, North Carolina.
Jessie is survived by her husband of 74 + years, Charles Thomas Roe of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina; two sons, Charles Gwinn Roe (Michelle) of Costa Mesa, California, Thomas Scott Roe of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina; one daughter, Billie Pamelia Roe Moss Bazley of Brevard, North Carolina; a daughter-in-law Shelia Ann Harwood Roe of Dunlap, Tennessee; one sister, Billie Mae Chapman Lavender Hawkins of Hendersonville, North Carolina; nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, two great great-grandsons, numerous nieces and nephews.
Jessie met Charles in Michigan and they were married October 23, 1942 in Roswell, Georgia. Over the course of the years she was a stay at home Mom, an airplane factory worker during World War II and also worked at the USO in Oceanside, California during that time, while Charles was in the Marines. She worked the assembly line at Dodge Main in Michigan after WWII, a shirt factory in Pikeville, Tennessee in the early 1960's, a uniform factory and the assembly line for McCullough chain saws in Lake Havasu City, Arizona during the late 1970's and early 1980's. Her hobbies were playing the violin (since the age of seven), line and square dancing, quilting and reading.
The funeral service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, February 25, 2017 in the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
