Obituary for Ruth Gillespie Summey

Brevard - Ruth Gillespie Summey 90 entered the arms of the Lord on Monday, September 19, 2016. Born October 5, 1925 in Cherryfield, North Carolina she was the daughter of the late Sam and Elouise Huggins Gillespie. In addition to her parents she was also predeceased by her husband Clyde Calvin Summey and brother Fred Gillespie.
Ruth was active in the Transylvania County Home Extension Club for many years and also worked for many years in the Transylvania County 4-H Club. She was a lifelong member of Mount Moriah Calvert Baptist Church in which she held many different duties in the church until her death. Ruth was the daughter of one of the founding members of the church and also at the time of her death the churches oldest member. She will be missed by many.
Survivors include daughter Catherine Kitchen and husband Michael of Balsam Grove, sons Frank Summey of the home and John Summey and wife Joan of Sunset, South Carolina. Grandchildren Travis Kitchen of Balsam Grove, Tracy Manoogian and husband Jason of Cedar Mountain, Ruth Anne Newton and husband Greg of Pisgah Forest, Julie Summey of Clemson, South Carolina and Johnny Summey and wife Rebekah of Sunset, South Carolina. Great-grandchildren James, Benjamin, Bethany and Michael Manoogian all of Cedar Mountain. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1pm, Friday, September 23, 2016 at Mount Moriah Calvert Baptist Church with Rev. Wallace McCall officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Private graveside service was held.
