Moody-Connolly Joins Local Business Coalition to Lend a Hand

Several businesses in Brevard join forces to help families with a food drive known as Lend a Hand Transylvania.

In January it’s easy to be complacent or forgetful about extending the good will towards others that highlighted the month before. That’s not true for Suzy Biecker of Moody-Connolly Funeral Home or the leaders of several other Brevard businesses.

“Lend a Hand Transylvania was started by Pam and Marge Rackley of La Petite Spa, and it felt right to bring this kind of support to a larger audience at this time of year,” Biecker said. “More hands make light work and enlisting the help of other local businesses and working together made the most sense.”

In addition to Moody-Connolly and La Petite Spa and Wellness , the other businesses in the coalition are Art Lab and Brevard Travel . All have agreed to spread the word among their customers, colleagues and friends as well as act as convenient collection points for the many non-perishable food items needed.

Some of the most sought-after items are canned pastas, cream soups, broth, mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise, canned greens and canned fruits. “Actually, cans of any type of food are perfectly suitable,” Biecker said.

The coalition is not without guidance. They’ve partnered with Sharing House , a non-profit organization that’s been helping low-income families since 1981. Together they make sure the donations get to the people in Transylvania county who need them most.

“Not everyone has it all, and it’s acutely important to remember that after the holidays. The need is still there. We think Lend a Hand Transylvania is solid way to make a difference,” Biecker said. “We hope others will agree with more than just a nod.”

Lend a Hand Transylvania will collect food items until February 28, 2019 at the various businesses cited above. Visit their websites or feel free to reach us at Moody-Connolly to make a donation or learn more.

April Miller and John Monteith Ringing the Bells: The holiday season makes us mindful of families and individuals who can benefit from a little assistance. Moody-Connolly Funeral Home & Crematory proudly sponsored the initiative, and two of our directors got to spend a sunny day greeting holiday shoppers at Walmart. Monteith has been with Moody-Connolly since 2010 and Miller joined in 2013. For both it was their first time soliciting donations on behalf of the Salvation Army.
