Obituary for David Walter Jarrett

David Walter Jarrett
David Walter Jarrett born March 9, 1948, passed away on August 28, 2018. He was a lifelong resident of Rosman, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Cornelia Jarrett, sister Lois Reid and her husband, Morris Reid. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Patty. He also leaves three daughters behind: Lisa and husband, Milon Chapman, of Campobello, SC, Robyn and husband, Matthew Pressley, of Waynesville, Laura and husband, Jacob Morgan, of Etowah. David also leaves behind his brother Horace Jarrett and wife, Pat, of Rosman, brother Morris Jarrett and wife, Verna Lee, of Six Mile, SC, sister Maxine Brown and husband, W.A., of Rosman, and sister Kathleen Watson and husband, Sam, of Rosman.

While he enjoyed many things over the course of his life, he would tell anyone who asked (or who didn’t ask) that his grandchildren were his greatest happiness. He once said that had he known grandchildren would be such fun that he would have skipped over the children part all together. MayLeigh, Maryssa, Wyatt, Luke and Carter will have many stories to share with their new cousin Will who is on the way.

A dream that began in 1977 became reality in 1980 when David, his brothers, Horace and Morris, and their wives, Patty, Pat, and Verna Lee opened Jarrett Brothers, Inc. This business was probably his proudest accomplishment, other than his grandchildren.

For many years, David enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his dad, brothers, family, and friends. During the last couple of years, life threw David some curve balls. No more hunting and fishing, but gardening took the place, and those who knew him knew all about his greenhouse and gardening projects.

He believed in working hard, helping those in need, and never, ever being afraid to say what you think. These values were instilled in Lisa, Robyn, and Laura, as well as all of the grandchildren who were blessed to call him Poppa. Hopefully, there are some better people walking around out there in the world who crossed paths with David as well.

Funeral services will be held at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home on Friday, August 31, 2018. Visitation will be at 1 pm with the service following at 2 pm. A graveside service will follow at Blue Ridge Gardens with military rites conducted by the Transylvania County Honor Guard.
