Condolence: I just learned of Doug's Passing near two weeks later ...due to living out of the County.
As Art Rowe, I also worked with Doug...but for 24 years. I fully reiterate everything Art said about Doug. He was certainly the "Dear Friend" that everyone covets. My "high-light" memory with Doug was working with him years back on a freezing icy day in a remote area of Pisgah National Forest. As we crossed a creek, Doug slipped and slid into an icy pool over his head. We managed not to have a "911" casualty that day by his stripping and taking my dry "long-johns" for warmth, wringing out his clothes, and building a fire. He's nothing to do now but enjoy that heavenly warmth.
Doug, one of my sons also is afflicted with that terrible Parkinson's...an inhuman ordeal. He too, like you, though, will over-come......

Condolence: Doug and I worked together with the Forest Service for about 15 years until he retired. He was a very good friend, but better than that, we were Christian brothers. He was not just a Sunday Christian. He lived his faith every day. Because of his steady personality, his integrity, his fairness, and his caring about people, Doug had earned great respect from all he in came in contact with whether they be co-workers, loggers, or the general public. He was an outstanding representative for the Forest Service. Some of my fondest memories of Doug are when I would go with him to check on logging operations (timber sales). As we frequently reminisced about the earlier days of the Forest Service, I could tell that he had a great love for the Forest, but he had an even greater love for the Lord and for his family. At the end of a work day Doug would typically say, “Well, let’s go to the Grove (Balsam Grove).” A few days ago he was probably thinking, “Well, let’s go to that Heavenly Grove.” We will miss Doug but we will remember how we have been so greatly blessed by him. He touched the lives of many, many people in a special way. Let’s hang on to the wonderful memories of a very special friend.
