After retirement he and Virginia moved to Pisgah Forest in 1988.

Clif enjoyed woodworking, attending classic car shows and repairing things, especially if they were a challenge. He was a member of Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church where he was an elder, deacon, Sunday school teacher and a volunteer with preschool children. He volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, starting when the first store opened.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years; Virginia Jenne Simpson, sons; Scott Simpson (Sandy) of New Berlin, WI and Bradley Simpson (Pamela) of Burleson, TX, daughter; Ellen McClintock (Stan) of Shawnee, KS and six grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff of Tores Home #2 for their devoted kindness and care for the past 14 months and to Hospice for their help in his last few days.
