Mildred Powell, 87, of Rosman, passed away on the evening of Monday August 5, 2019 with her family by her side. She was born on August 26, 1931, in Spartanburg, SC to the late Ernest and Lola Griffin.
Mildred was an active member in the Rosman community where she was a founding member of the Rosman Fire Department and Rescue Squad Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of East Fork Baptist for many years. She could often be found on Friday nights supporting the Rosman Tiger Football team and on Saturday nights playing bingo at the Eastatoe Community Center or the Quebec Community Center. She also loved camping, doing word search puzzles, and watching the Atlanta Braves play. She was a loving mother and an amazing Mamaw who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was known to say, “I love my kids, but there is just something special about the love I have for my grandkids.”
Mildred was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 57 years, Jack Powell, her brother John Lewis Griffin, and her sister Sara Catherine Graham.
Mrs. Powell is survived by her daughter, Donna (Tony) Grogan of Salem, SC, and her son, Ronnie Powell of Rosman; her six grandchildren, Morgan Grogan of Brevard, Kaitlin Grogan of Asheville, Caleb (Morgan Rampy) Grogan of Easley, SC, Cameron (Kristain) Price of Tamassee, SC, Evan Owen of Charlotte, and Neela (David) Anders of Rosman; her three great-grandchildren, Leigha, Harper, and Jayde; and her many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Eastatoe Community Center P.O. Box 398, Rosman, NC 28772
Funeral services will be held 2pm, Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene King officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.
