Obituary for Ortwin Goede

Ortwin Manfred Goede, age 73, went to be with the Lord and savior on August 20, 2009. He was the only child of Trude Stark Goede and Gustav Frederick Goede. He was born in Ratzebuhr, Germany on September 23, 1935. He grew up in Germany during World War II. As a child he and his mother fled from the Russian front as it came near his mother’s home town, they had gone back to the country to escape the bombing raids at their home in Berlin. When they feld from the Russian front in Ratzebuhr they went to the western part of Germany where they stayed until the war ended. When the war ended they returned to their home in Berlin where they lived during the Berlin Airlift. This was a horrible time for the people of Berlin when Russian cut off all supplies to the city for nearly a year. Ortwin was eternally grateful for the part the US Military played supplying the city of that size with its needs.

He and his parents came to America on April 1, 1954, they lived in Washburn, IL for some time before moving to Milwaukee Wisconsin. He lived there until he joined the US Air Force in 1957. He was not a naturalized citizen at that time and was required to get a secret clearance to serve in the US Military. He served his adopted country for 4 years in the Us Air Force. He became a naturalized citizen on May 16, 1969. He worked at Ecusta in the finishing department while going to Asheville Buncome Tech to become a machinist. After completing his machinist training he started working in the machine shop and worked there until he retired in 1998.

He is survived by his loving wife, Evon Lyday Goede of the home, one cherished son Eric and his wife Melissa and three wonderful grandchildren, Heather, Andrew, and Nicholas all of Missouri. He is survived by his extended family, a sister-in-law Joyce Phillips, brother-in-law Steve Lyday and wife Alice, Nephews Aaron Phillips, Adam Phillips, Shawn Lyday and wife Christy, great nephews Blake, Layton, and Chandler Phillips, Carson Lyday and great niece Cambrie Lyday.

He was a model citizen of the country he called home and was loved by all who knew him.
