Obituary for Patricia Leigh Owen (Huggins)

Mrs. Patricia Leigh (Huggins) Owen, age 69, of Brevard went to heaven on November 6, 2015. Her faith in God gave her much strength throughout an eighteen month battle with cancer.
Ms. Pat was born to the late Van Elliott Huggins, Sr. and Lula Blanche Huggins in Lake Toxaway, NC on March 6, 1946. After growing up in the Cathey’s Creek community and graduating from Brevard High School in 1964, Pat worked in the banking industry for several years and as a tax preparation specialist. But her greatest involvement was serving alongside her beloved husband of 50 years, Rev. Wayne D. Owen as he pastored Macedonia Baptist Church in Lake Toxaway, Woods Memorial Baptist Church in Balsam Grove, and currently Forge Valley Baptist Church in Mills River. She played the piano, taught Sunday School, and served the Lord in numerous ways over the years.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Owen is survived by three children to whom she was the greatest Momma in the world. Her son Rev. David Owen is married to Angie, and he is the pastor of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Powder Springs, GA. Her daughter Amy Owen works as a paraprofessional teacher's aide for the Transylvania County School system. And her daughter Debra is a homeschooling mom and wife to Rev. Phillip Kuykendall, pastor of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Hendersonville.
She is survived by five grandchildren who lovingly called her their “Nonnie”: Samuel Owen and his wife Maggie, Jonathan Owen, Dalton Kuykendall, Olivia Kuykendall, and Ella Kuykendall.
She is also survived by her brother Russell Huggins and wife Cleo, her brother Ronnie Huggins and wife Renolga, her sister Rosalie Passmore and husband Tommy, and her brother Gary Huggins and wife Rhonda. She also has many nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Pat. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her oldest brother Van Huggins, Jr.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, November 9, 2015 and the funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 10th; and both the visitation and the funeral will be held at the Forge Valley Baptist Church located at 7419 Boylston Highway in Mills River, NC, followed by interment at the Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory Cemetery also known as Pisgah Gardens.
