Brevard – Van West Flynn, 80, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2013 at Transylvania Regional Hospital after an extended illness.

He was born in Marshall, NC to the late John T., Sr. and Doris West Flynn. He was also preceded in death by brothers, John T. Flynn, Jr. and Earl B. Flynn and a sister, Joyce Cochran.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean War. He retired from the Ecusta Corporation with 43 years of service. He was a member of Glady Branch Baptist Church for 48 years. He loved going to church and was always willing to help anyone in need. Van was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

Surviving is his wife of 49 years; Elizabeth Jenkins Flynn, son; Eric T. Flynn of Athens, GA, daughter; Stephanie Hardin and husband Thomas of Perry, GA, grandchildren; Cole M. and Olivia R. Austin of Perry, GA, sister in law; Anne G. Flynn of Brevard and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2pm on Monday, December 30, 2013 at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home with the Rev. Allen Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory with graveside rites conducted by the Honor Guard of Transylvania County Veterans.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
