Walterine Ward Wilson
Brevard – Walterine Ward Wilson, 88, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2014 after suffering a stroke on Christmas Eve.
Walterine was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Ola Ward, brothers, Melvin, Milford, Grady and Larry, sisters, Nina Raxter, Janie Priest, Charlotte Englert and Helen Shelton.
She is survived by Cecil, her beloved husband of 73 years, daughter, Joyce Steel and husband Bruce; son, Artie Wilson; brother, Robert Ward; sisters, Mildred Coren, Pat Childs and husband Richard and Jenny Ward; grandsons, Jeff Steel and wife Marie and Scott Wilson and wife Michele; granddaughter, Kim Nanney and husband Steve; great-grandchildren, Nicole Cash and husband Craigon, Brooklyn Nanney, Tyler Wilson, Rebecca Wilson, and Zachary Wilson; great-great granddaughter, Paisley Cash as well as multiple nieces, nephews and extended family.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Friday, January 2, 2015 at Carr’s Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Shane Hardesty and Rev. Dick Westbrook officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Broyhill Children’s Home, 111 Sneed Dr., Clyde, NC 28721.
Walterine, a longtime member of Carr’s Hill Baptist Church, was a living testament to her faith, touching so many lives through her gifts of food and loving kindness. She was greatly loved and will be missed.
