Brevard - Eddie Dean Chapman, born on October 2, 1947, went to sleep waiting on Jesus to call him home on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at his SC home.

He was the son of the late Cyrus Edward and Lottie Mae Dodson Chapman. He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Lonnie Chapman.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years Linda Barton Chapman, daughters, Evelyn Diane Chapman and Lisa D. Chapman Sims of the home, grandsons, Jason Henderson (Julie) of Surrency Georgia, Richard Parker and Victor Sims Jr. and his #1 granddaughter, Ashley Sims Thomas (Kevin) of Fort Polk, Louisiana, four great grandsons, Corban Henderson, Camdyn Henderson, Jamie Parker and Ezra Thomas.

He graduated from Rosman High School in 1965. In the 80s and 90s, Eddie built many houses, Mica's Restaurant in Sapphire, a housing project in Statesville, NC and a manufacturing plant in SC. He became a paint contractor later in life and painted many houses in Transylvania County not by advertising but by word-of-mouth. Mostly, Eddie will be remembered for his love of country music. He played many years with the Carolina Country Band mostly at the Lake Toxaway and Balsam Grove Community Centers. He willingly played for benefits free of charge to help people he did not even know. His most requested song was “My Farewell Party” by Gene Watson. He could play multiple music instruments and wrote some of his own songs.

His wish was to be cremated and laid to rest at the Whitmire Cemetery on Flat Creek Valley Road. A Celebration of Life for Eddie will be announced at a later date.

Dear sweet Linda, Lisa, and Diane, I was so sad to hear of Eddie's passing. He and Linda were like my second parents growing up. I have many fond memories of spending time with your family. Lots of weekend nights staying over with my best friend Lisa, our trip to Ghost Town, and Linda and Eddie paying for me to go to Summer Camp with Lisa. So many of my favorite childhood memories spent with my "adopted" family. I will be praying for peace and comfort for you all in the coming days. How wonderful to know that we will see him in Heaven one sweet day. Much love to all of you and if you need anything at all, please let me know. God bless you all. Eddie, you will be missed, go rest high on that mountain. Love y'all, Tina Sprouse

Linda, Garry and I were so saddened to hear about Eddie. What wonderful memories we have of all the music he was involved in.

When he started playing, the whole room came alive.

I will never forget Eddie, he was a great friend of mine, I could always count on him to tell me what he was really thinking or what his opinion was even if he knew it would hurt your feelings. People like him are few and far between. Eddie was like a brother he is truly missed.

Linda and Family,
So sorry to learn of Eddie's death. Always enjoyed his music and singing, especially with Roy and Joe. I know this must be the hardest thing you have ever had to go through and my thoughts and prayers have been with you the last several days. I send my love and hope to see you soon.
