Obituary for William Edwin Bentley Sr.

William Edwin Bentley, Sr., 90, of Pisgah Forest passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Charles George Veterans Community Living Center in Asheville.

A native of Transylvania County he was the son of the late William Hansel Bentley and Mary Elizabeth Johnson Bentley. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Lola Dean Woodward Bentley, his daughter, Vickey Lynn Bentley Reeves, one brother, Bobby Jones Bentley.

Mr. Bentley was a life time member of Cathey’s Creek Baptist Church for many years.
He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy as a gunners mate serving in the Pacific, and an employee of Olin/P.H. Glatfelter for 37 years.

Survivors include one son; William Edwin Bentley, Jr., and wife Sharon of Little River three daughters Sheila Pineda Bayles and her husband Hank of Cedar Mountain,
Gwen B. Fisher and husband Ronnie of Brevard and Allison B. Dobbins and her husband David of Rosman; son-in-law, Jim Reeves; two sisters, Frances Bentley Drake of Landrum, S.C. and Jean Bentley O’Shields of Brevard; ten grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Cathey’s Creek Baptist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 11:00am until 12 noon. Military honors will be provided by the United States Navy and the Transylvania County Honor Guard.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Cedar Mountain House and The VA Hospice for their loving compassion and care.

In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made to Cathey’s Creek Baptist Church, 58 Cathey’s Creek Road, Brevard NC 28712.
